I am asking about late 80's early 90's style here. Ok - it comes in many shapes in sizes. If Poisons LWTCDI is glam defined then a group like Spiders and Snakes cant be. If Pretty Boy Floyd (L.A.) is glam then Trash Brats cant be. What is the real definition? Is it Look and Attitude moe than the music? Cause I have heard the word GLAM thrown at bands that arent anywhere near alike sound wise. Just Curious!?

All depends on who you ask, and how broad your definition is.

IMO, no way in hell is Poison "True Glam". IMO, Spiders And Snakes are, as is Trash Brats. Pretty Boy Floyd? Nope.

In all honesty though, it is the whole thing: Looks, music, attitude, all of it.

But the thing is, so many people say Poison is Glam, that they are. Glam is all about being RnR, make-up, sex appeal, and in many ways, excess. Basically, Glam is all about living life as fully as you can, and looking damn good while you do it while the RnR blasts out of your house.

Glam is NOT about ballads. I have seen Glam "experts" of the 70's variety claim that 70's Glam actually died once it embraced the ballad and Elton John.

But in the end, it is what you believe it is. Dan and I rarely agree on bands, but we both agree that we are Glam fans. He found the style by different means and bands than I did, but we have both ended up in the same place, and we both love a few of the same bands.

Glam is about Rock N Roll...Make-up...clothes...image...and cool friggin guitar riffs galore!
Though, if ya take the make-up too far like KISS..then it's not glam...It's a Clown in the Circus...LMFAO!!!...sorry had to do it...hahahaha!!!

This is an issue I've discussed with many people over the years. One thing is clear to me...Glam is an attitude, not an image. Star Star singing "Science Fiction Boy" may not LOOK that glam, but it is full on friggin' glamrock...period. At the same time, Warrant and Guns 'n Roses used to wear makeup and bleach their hair, but they were never glam. A great bands yes, glam bands no...

It's also important Glam Drummer, to keep in mind that glam, just all other genres of music, has many faces. Country music ranges from Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash all the way to Shania Twain. Shania's is nothing like the other two, but they are all country music. Punk ranges everywhere from GG Allin to Simple Plan. I don't need to tell you that there's little in common there, but both are still legitimate punk. Glam is no different. Glam encompasses everything from the Trash Brats to PBF to the Dogs D'Amour and beyond...Glam is many things, many sounds, many looks, many different facets. Peppermint Creeps are glam as f**k, but you don't have to look or sound like that to be glam...It's a spirit in the music, and attitude...Never has glam been, nor ever will it be, just a makeup thing...Orgy wears a ton of makeup, and so does Marilyn Manson, but neither band has the spirit of glam...

It's about John Denver, he started it ALL! End of story in my opinion.

"Cold Lake" album by CELTIC FROST is the clue. If you like then you really are into GLAM METAL and if you don't then it might be you are into other kinds of glam... LWTCDI by POISON is also GLAM METAL but... I would call it Happy Glam Metal while the bands featured and supported by CLAWS OF SIN Website are agressive and dark glam metal, maybe even thrash glam (not trash).... Glam/Sleazy Rock like Hanoi Rocks and alike is another kind of thing and comes from a different planet... GLAM METAL comes from NWOBHM meets punk while glam/sleazy rock comes more from rythm'n blues.
Read carefully my starting post at topic "GLAM METAL vs. GLAM ROCK" and maybe you will understand better what I mean. No one has the truth. Everything's a matter of taste... There are thousands of bands out there and everybody picks the ones which are closer to their way of feeling and understanding this so complicated world of music
